Help
The Court offers you a number of tools to find your way around the site. This document will explain them and show you how the various bells and whistles work, so that you can get the most out of The Court.
Persistent menus:
The two horizontal menu bars at the top of this page will remain with you throughout your visit and will let you get directly to much of the content on the site from any point. If you have JavaScript enabled in your browser, ((See the instructions on Google for enabling JavaScript. )) you will see sub-menus drop down when you hover the cursor over some of the menu items. If you choose not to browse with JavaScript enabled, clicking on the main item in the menu will always take you to a page where the sub-menu items will be available.
As well, the images in the menu are hyperlinked: clicking on the Osgoode logo will take you to the law school’s home page, clicking on the sketch of the Supreme Court building will take you to the Supreme Court website, and clicking on The Court will take you to our home page.
The vertical sidebar to your right, which will appear on most but not all pages in the site, contains links to certain aspects of our material that we wish to bring to your special attention. Should you find yourself on a page without a sidebar, you have only to click on Home on the main horizontal menu and you’ll be taken to the home page of the site, where the sidebar always appears.
The anatomy of a blog entry:
The main page shows the latest seven comments (entries) posted to the site, in reverse chronological order. You have only to scroll down to find them. If you want to browse earlier entries, you’ll always find a link to the previous comments at the bottom left of the page.
Each entry is surrounded by a number of hyperlinked terms.
- title – Clicking on the title at the top of an entry will take you to a page for that entry alone, along with any responses that have been made to that comment.
This folder icon will be followed by a topic name hyperlinked to a page where all other entries in that subject category can be found- respond – At the end of the entry you’ll see a number of links, the first of which is “Respond”. This is link you click to be taken to a form where you can send a response to the associated entry. If the link says “2 responses” — or any number of “Responses” — it means that there are that number of responses to the commentary that have already been sent; the link takes you to those responses and to the form that will let you submit your own response.
- email – The next hyperlink enables you to “Email the link” to the entry above it. Clicking it will call up your email program and a draft email with the link to the entry already inserted in the body of the email.
- PDF – The link to the right, “This entry as PDF,” will create a file of the entry above it in PDF (portable document format) on your computer. You may find this a useful way to save an entry for later reading or distribution to others.
– This image appears to the bottom right of each entry; clicking on it will take you up to the top of the page.
