The Court is Hiring Summer Editors for Summer 2010

The Court (thecourt.ca) is hiring three (3) RA’s to be Summer Editors.

Each RA/Summer Editor is expected to work 245 hours during the summer at the usual rate of $14.50 per hour plus benefits (4% vacation pay + 10% benefits = a total of $16.59 / hour). Each Summer Editor will write one entry per week and edit the draft entry of one other editor per week. As well, the Summer Editors collaborate to solicit submissions – and edit those submissions – from others.

The summer period for TheCourt begins with a post from one of the Summer Editors on Monday, May 3. All should be prepared to post every week all summer until August 31, arranging to have postings ready in advance for any week being taken as holiday.

Summer Editors should enjoy writing and have the ability to do it well. The weblog is run using WordPress, which is easy to operate, and so there is no need for Summer Editors to have any particular computer expertise. However, it will be bonus to have at least one RA who does have some skill with HTML and CSS, if not with WordPress itself, in order to deal with the very occasional technical matter that may arise (without having to rely on Osgoode IT).

The deadline for applications for the Summer Editor RAs is Thursday, April 15 by 12 noon.

Please submit an application cover letter, a CV, Osgoode transcript (unofficial copy), and at least one writing sample to the Editor-in-Chief, Professor Craig Scott, via Hazel Pollack at hpollack@osgoode.yorku.ca (copying to Professor Scott at cscott@osgoode.yorku.ca).

Potential applicants who wish can arrange through Professor Scott to speak to a current student editor of The Court about the nature of the position.

[Please note: The Court is also recruiting Editors for next academic year, 2010-11. See http://www.thecourt.ca/recruitment/ for details. Those applications are due June 1, 2010. If you are planning to also apply for these editorial positions, please mention this in your cover letter for the summer position.]
