Supreme Court of Canada – 2006 – Authors Cited

The Supreme Court cited 175 personal authors of 206 works in judgments released during 2006. You can see the data, set out below, in either of two ways: a list of authors cited, ranked by the number of times cited; and a list of all works cited at least once, sorted by first author. As well, there is a table of law journals and articles cited. The data is taken from the Supreme Court’s reports of judgments.

A. List of Authors Cited

The authors are ranked first by the number of times each has been cited, and then within those grouping by last name. Where a work has more than one author, each author of a cited work is listed separately, and the fact of multiple authors is not shown in this table. The number in square brackets shows how many times the author was cited; where an author has been cited for more than one work, each work is listed after his or her name, preceded by the number of times that work was cited place in brackets.

Thus in this example…

[2] Paciocco, David M. [1] “The Hearsay Exceptions: A Game of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’’”, in Special Lectures of the Law Society of Upper Canada 2003: The Law of Evidence. Toronto: Irwin Law, 2004, 17 [1] The Law of Evidence, 3rd ed. Toronto: Irwin Law, 2002.

…the author Paciocco was cited a total of two times, once for his “Hearsay” article and once for his book on the law of evidence.
